Iran center Rheumatology is one of the leading centers in providing prevention, diagnosis, and treatment services for rheumatological diseases in Iran.
In 1962, a hospital named Jami was established on North Amir Abad Street by several prominent physicians of the time. The hospital remained operational until 1985, when its activities ceased due to the emigration of some of its doctors.
In 1996, through the efforts of two distinguished professors from Tehran University of Medical Sciences, Professor Farhad Gharibdoost and Professor Ahmadreza Jamshidi, the hospital was acquired. Following a complete renovation of its building, it was inaugurated as the first specialized center for joint and bone diseases and rheumatic disorders.
Subsequently, through the collaboration of renowned professors in the field, including Professor Faridoon Davatchi, Professor Mahmoud Akbarian, Professor Farhad Shahram, and Professor Abdulhadi Naji, a robust academic core for the diagnosis and treatment of rheumatological diseases was established. This center subsequently gained recognition as the national reference for rheumatic and autoimmune diseases across the country.
Given the overwhelming response from the esteemed Iranian population, the training and recruitment of young rheumatologists through the Rheumatology Research Center at Shariati Hospital was prioritized as part of the strategic agenda. The outcome of this initiative not only provided the center with specialized human resources but also ensured their deployment across the country to facilitate access for patients.
Subsequently, the clinic division was strengthened by recruiting prominent subspecialists and specialists in other required fields, including orthopedics, urology, cardiovascular medicine, nephrology and hypertension, gastroenterology, endocrinology, dermatology, neurology, psychiatry, and others.
All paraclinical departments, such as the laboratory, radiology, sonography, mammography, MRI, bone densitometry, nuclear medicine, physiotherapy, electromyography (EMG) and nerve conduction studies, nutrition and diet therapy, specialized intra-articular injections, and all other patient-required facilities, commenced operations following the procurement of state-of-the-art equipment as part of the center’s ongoing development.
Currently, the Iran center Rheumatology proudly operates in collaboration with over 100 subspecialists and specialists in rheumatology and all required medical fields. Equipped with comprehensive diagnostic and therapeutic facilities, the center serves all compatriots and patients from neighboring countries.
